A Year in Review

The Foundation exists to primarily support and enrich the lives of children who have had less than an ideal start in life. Special emphasis will be dedicated to children who have been in the foster care system, or children who have been subject to early abuse or trauma resulting in emotional or mental health issues. Support will be in the form of grants donated to those organizations and individuals who work towards the same goals.

SOME 2006/2007 ACTIVITIES:
We started out making grants to several organizations that support our ideals in December of 2006. Grants were made to five organizations in 2006 and six organization in 2007.

In 2007 we also initiated our first year of providing camp scholarships for children who demonstrated a need for financial assistance to attend a camp. Our goal was to help children to attend camps that specialize in helping those with behavioral and emotional challenges and for children who were in the foster care system who might otherwise not have a camp experience. We sent 5 children to camp during the summer of 2007.

2008 GOALS:
We will continue our "camp assistance" program this year and will have an application on our web site after the first of the year. We will continue to support, in the form of grants, likeminded organizations.

Request for Proposals.
We are in the process of formalizing a request for proposals. We are looking for organizations that have, or will, create a workshop for teachers, school administrators, and school adjustment counselors in dealing with students with behavioral issues. Specifically, in the areas north of Boston, we would target schools that do not have any formal training in place to help children who may not respond to traditional punishments. The workshop would be a first big step in helping those who work with children in these school systems understand the motivating factors behind the behaviors and help them to try new and better ways to "teach" and "support" the student rather than the usual "suspensions" and "detentions".
